Yes is should work. The meter will read 12 volt full scale. Meaning it
should move all the way to the right when it is looking at 12 volts. I
wouldn't use any resister, what you see on the meter is the voltage
you have. If you charge the battery you need a meter that reads 15
or 16 volts. G.M.
