What do you mean when you say "Checking it has a 12V battery neg ground". What is "it"? Is the vehicle 12 volts negative ground? Is the alternator 12 volts negative ground? If "it" is the alternator did you check it out or just read the tag? If you just read the tag may have been left over from before the alternator was modified the alternator to 6 volts.
