My 9-27-28 car has 5 bearings in the block, but the original 5 bearing cam has #2 and #4 bearings rough ground undersize. The factory was dropping the 5 bearing and going to the new 3 bearings cam, and I can only guess the factory ground down #2 and #4 to speed installation?
Otherwise, since the block has 5 bearings, why not keep using all 5 bearings until the supply of those cams runs out.
