I was also told and had read in 1962 that Model As had Safety glass from the factory so when I was replacing the Plate glass in the side and rear windows of the Coupe I did not replace the windshield.

Four years later In 1966 I hit the rear of a 56 Plymouth that was stopped for a left turn at 45 MPH. The seat belt kept me out of the windshield and it was not cracked or broken.

Twelve years later I decided to replace the windshield as it was rattling in the frame.

Guess what? ... The glass was common single strength window PLATE GLASS!

Someone in the past did not want to pay for Safety glass and used window glass instead.

Do not assume that the windshield in your car is Safety glass.
