No experience with the Hayden unit. Vintage Air no.24675-VUT was on my '37 with aluminum radiator when I got the car. Works well, no problems so far. The on/off delta is about ten to fifteen degrees. No separate relay required. Speedway sells it for $39.
I don't have a switch on the dash. Yes, fan is on upon start-up sometimes, but that never has been a problem for me on this car.
