Default what are the differences between 1948 rear diff vs 1936 diff

The 1948 3:78 gears are 6 spine on the pinion gear with a solid driveshaft. The 1936 pinion gear is 10 spline with a hallow driveshaft. You cannot use the 6 spine gears on the 36 unless you will cut drive shaft and weld a 6 spine coupler in place. You however can use 10 spline gears on you 48 with a 6 to 10 spline coupler. Personally I think your best bet is to find 10 spine gears in the ratio you want.

One thing to be aware of is that 1932-1934 ring and pinion gears are 10 spine but shorter than 1935-1948 gears and will not work for your application.
