Tom in TN, Not being able to see the parts he's working with... a weak/loose pedal return spring would be my first guess. It may be wound around the upper bolt & hub the pedal arm hangs from, with a plastic sleeve inside. ?
Or worn out mounting hardware on the (mechanical) brake light switch.
