Also make SURE you don't get the hoses mixed up between where they leave and then re enter the block. I know of at least 1 engine that ran for a couple of days before locking up due to this. The filter was back by the master cylinder and the rubber hoses reversed where they hook to the block as they were routed around stuff. I use a silver sharpie and draw arrows on the rubber hoses to prevent this sort of thing. I have 5 cars running flatheads and 3 have remote filters with zero problems and easy oil changes.
