The carb guys will check in shortly with good advice about heat spacers & evaporation of modern gas, but before they do I'd like to suggest air leaks letting your fuel line lose prime.

There's that flex line between the steel line & the pump as the "prime" suspect. Then there's the pump itself, followed by wherever else there is rubber or a coupler.

It gets more complicated after that, but those seem to be the place to start.
