I've heard the term grinding a crank to race car specs. This not only means getting the journals round and sized but making sure all throws are the exact amount of degrees apart. I'm not sure what the tolerances are but can see how a rod journal could be worn on one side and it needs to be set up so you're grinding more off the unworn surface.
