Need some help.

Does anyone have any info on the snap on s9023 spring spreader?

The snap on 1936 and 1937 catalogs I have seen on line all refer to it having a ball bearing ratchet assembly to take the thrust. I do not see any bearings in the one I just got. Am I missing something?
