Blimey, you're patient. I hope you've not been sitting there for 5 years waiting for a reply...
Make sure your kingpins are in good condition. Make sure your tie rod ends are in good condition. Make sure the drag link joints are in good condition. make sure the toe-in is set correctly.
With the vehicle on the ground observe the steering wheel from the side. Rock the steering wheel back and forth and look for axial (up and down) movement. If you can see movement you need to re-shim the worm bearings in the steering box.
Assuming that is ok, disconnect the drag link from the pitman arm.
Wind the steering from lock to lock and count the turns. Wind it back to the straight ahead position by counting from one side half the number you counted lock to lock.
Rock the steering back and forth a few degrees either side of the straight ahead position.
Feel for any tightness. Assuming you can't feel tightness, adjust as follows.
Undo the locknut and remove the star washer on the top of the steering box.
Turn the screw inwards a quarter turn. rock the steering again, feeling for tightness at the straight ahead position. If not tight try another quarter turn. Keep going until you sense a tightening as the steering wheel passes the straight ahead position.
If too tight slacken it off a little. You want to achieve zero play without it going too tight. very slightly tight is ok.
Once the steering adjustment is ok refit the star washer and the locking nut.
With the wheels straight, and the steering box in the straight ahead "sweet spot" adjust the length of the drag link so it just slips into place.
Reconnect the drag link and the job is done.
If there is bad wear of the worm, pitting of the worm or roller, or bad bearings on the shaft, or it is all full of rust, you will probably not be able to achieve the optimum adjustment. That is when the steering box needs repairing or replacing.
