Quick update. I've took my heads to a hot rod buddy of mine who is a fabricator by trade. I did some research, used the advice from you guys and we came up with a plan to eliminate the extra threads and unshroud the plug area. Bubba has my distributor for a recurve. My fingers are crossed and the excitement of resolveing the pinging issue is growing. I ordered an ARP head stud kit from Reds, so I should be good to go. I'll let you know how it ends up.
