Scott, I don't know if this is your problem but if I drive my Town Sedan for a bit and then stop (say while in a Auto Parts Store) and shut off the fuel while it's parked, it does the same thing as you describe. The only thing I can think of is that the gas in the float bowl starts boiling.

If I leave the gas on or shut off the gas and run the float bowl dry, it doesn't act up.

Easy to try...
