I do think it's worth noting, for any newbies reading the thread, that Optimas aren't mandatory. Lots of folks have them, they work great, but you can get a 6V tractor battery for under $100 that will probably work just fine – especially if your starter is in good condition.
Not a judgment on the OP, if you need an Optima go ahead and buy one. I have two.
