As usual the response time was outstanding. Thank you everyone for your input. 51 Merc-CT I made a copy of your diagram and will put it in the "archives" for my kids when they inherit the car.

Now I know what it is but still have to figure out about the sealant. I don't believe it was something that has been there for many years and I don't know where it came from. It seems as though when the engine gets hot the stuff oozes out kind of stringy like. I don't think the rubber engine mount would do that. I only noticed it happening maybe three or four years ago. Just before I brought the car down to FL I had a garage in MA change the oil and lubricate it. I hope someone didn't mistake the mount for the oil drain plug and try to take it off.
