Default Re: How To Remove An Amp Gauge

The difficult part is getting a hand up in there to disconnect stuff. The speedo & gauge cluster does come out toward the rear but it will have other gauge connections & wiring harness that needs to be disconnected as well. On my 1951 Mercury cars (they are completely different), I have to remove the whole dash to get to the instruments and/or remove the face of the instrument panel. It's not as hard a person might think it is but it does take some time. The steering column generally has to be dropped down to do it. Heater cables, e-brake handle, and other items also have to be disconnected. They have screws under the windshield mouldings and a bolt on each side that actually hold the dash in place

The big round 1951 Ford cluster appears to only have one screw holding the amp gauge to the cluster body back shell. It also looks like there are three studs that hold the body to the face of the dash
