John, unless you grandpa would have married his prom date, he made the better choice.

Joe, I have the earliest John Deere 110 with the 7 horse Kohler. When I bought it about 20 years ago the tranny was also bad. If you study the input and output shafts of the tranny, it would be like taking a Model A tranny and mounting a V belt pulley to the end of the input shaft with no bearing support on the shaft end. The Model A has support with the crankshaft bearing, so the input shaft can't flop sideways. The 110 failed in this respect, so the input shaft is the weak point. I don't work my 110 hard. It's more show and tell. I use my original Cub Cadet with a snow plow to keep the snow plowed away from the Model A garage and driveway.
