Sounds a lot like a coil or condenser issue. Another thing to check is a fuel tank that is not vented. An easy test is to remove the gas cap and see what happens.

If the battery is going low in that short of a time, then that would be an issue as well. A fully charged battery should be able to run an ignition for a while. Check the battery voltage as one way to estimate the state of charge.
