Bands are out there but they don't often give problems. The transmission is a medium case version of the Ford-O-Matic/Merc-O-Matic and they all use the same rear band in that time frame. They can be relined so there should be no problem getting a good one on an exchange.
If the car will operate in low gear but not in reverse then it may not be the band anyway and may still be serviceable. It will have to be disassembled and cleaned to tell what all is going on in there. Clutch packs and seals are generally all that is needed but an inspection will tell if you need further hard parts. Keep in mind that these share parts with the Thunderbird and Mercury cars in that time frame even though there are some differences. There are several good Thunderbird transmission guys out there if a person does some research.
