If you pick up a part and are interested in purchasing it, DO NOT LAY IT DOWN. As long as it is in your hand, you are free to negotiate with the seller. If you put it down, any else can pick it up and buy it. Once you put it down, you have lost your right to negotiate if another person is interested. If you do have to put it down, put your foot on it to "hold your position".
