So on the dry side of the Sierras near the Nevada state line. Most likely a silver mine. Owens lake used to be an actual lake before LA diverted all the water. Paddle wheel boats were used to transport silver from the mines on the east side of the lake to the rail head on the west side of Owens Lake - now dry thanks to LA.
