Default Re: V8 engine found half buried

How about a photo?

Ford stamped the serial number first on the transmission. The stamped trans was then mated to an engine. When the engine was installed on a frame/chassis, the number stamped on the transmission was then stamped to three points on the Ford frame.

I don't know about the "BBP8" portion of the number.
A familiar style of Ford "VIN" would be "Star 18-3625829 Star" stamped on the trans and frame rails.

This is what my 1937 Ford trans number looks like. This number also appears on the frame.
