This is from The 1949-50-51
FORD Book published by the EFV8 Club.
"The early 1949 engines were finished in the same manner as the engines were on the 1948 models. The engine was blue and most accessories were either natural finish or painted black. Starting sometime in the 1949 model year, all engines were painted bronze
AFTER major assembly The block, heads, manifolds, water pumps, front cover, bell housing, and oil pan were all painted as an assembled unit."
It goes on to list the colors/finishes of the added on parts for each of the years. A good book to have if you're restoring to "original".
