I don't know if Henry ever worried about the older cars. He just wanted to make decent utilitarian car that folks could afford to replace at regular intervals. Edsel was the one that wanted to change the designs to make them more pleasing to the eye and keep them updated enough to compete in the market. Henry wouldn't let him mess with the frame though so all the designs from 1935 through 1940 had to fit the same short frame. What is amazing is that they managed to do it so damn well.
