Default Did Ford manufacture 1934 'open' cars itself?

I ask this question as I was reading the 1935-1936 Ford Restoration manual and it states that in these years other body manufacturers ie: Briggs etc made them for Ford. Also I've often wondered what the 'LB' stands for on the small model # plate on the firewall.
