I use the spring covers from the vendors also. They are hardly noticable and look much better than rusty leaf springs. I have been using the same set for ~7 years now.

I have removed them in that time period to check and relube the felt. Might be hard to do that if they were wrapped.

It's been awhile since I have seen three legged jack stands...
