Thank you all for the compliments and valuable info.

A faded liquid would explain why the temp gauge is hard to read, and I‘m glad the upper limit of the gauge does not mean instant mayhem. For now I can live with the existing gauge I guess.

The car was restored a few years ago and is highly original from what I can tell. It has been completely reliable so far. I am very happy with it.
