I took a small spring, out of a pen I think, cut it so it is flush with the block with the pump installed and then screwed the plug in, holds the pump real nice and the spring comes out easy after the pan is installed, remove the spring, reinsert the plug and you're all done, no fuss, no muss and no special tool...cost is free.
