I'm guessing you don't what to hear this, but I'll try anyway!
If you right click on a photo with the mouse a window will pop up. At or near the bottom of that window is Properties. Left click on that and it will display the photos properties including the file type and size.
Note: if there are any kids around they can do this stuff in their sleep!!!
