, The '48 differential is not a direct swap into a '36. The '48 is a longer wheel base car than the '36, therefore the torque tube is longer, additionally the '48 is 2" wider than the 36 and the brakes are hydraulic in lieu of mechanical.
The '48 axles, and axle housings will fit and work on a '36 center section, however, '37-'38 radius bars have to be used.
If you want to improve the gearing to 3.78, buy a new gear set in the ratio you want and have a good mechanic install it.
