Many many years ago, before the internet, there were articles in the magazines about how the vibration pattern in your rear view mirror could be used to analyze your engine. A certain pattern, say a slanted oval was a loose rod bearing and straight up and down was a loose main bearing. I now think it was pure BS and meant to be funny. But back then I thought it was a serious thing.
