Default Re: Double Nut Lifters Secrets

The lifters have a flat on both sides that keeps them from rotating. A really thin wrench is needed to hold it. A 17/32” open wrench is needed. Those are unavailable so use an old 1/2” open and Dremel it open to 17/32”. The head must be ground down very thin, also.

1/10th of a turn is about .001”. The lock nut has to be almost tight against the top of the lifter and the gap is set a little tight. Then when the lock nut is tightened, the gap will be reset perfect. A little trial and error will determine where to start the gap. Otherwise, it takes 3 wrenches and 3 hands. None of the You Tube videos show this lifter, which is the best and most difficult to adjust.

The lifters can be set without removing the head by using the Distributor Rotor set half way between the terminal posts. A helper can hit the starter and get the Rotor close and you can make it perfect using a crank or socket on the crank nut. I bought a set of cheap Harbor Freight wrenches so I can grind one really thin to use on the Lifter.
