I removed the hub seal to inspect the components and as I was going thru my box of bearings and seals I found the culprit.....Guess where the difference was...notice the thin axle nut in your photo. I was using the early nuts which are deeper.

Ah ....We were just talking about these nuts a month & a half ago while discussing 1936 spindles. "Rich b" had posted these two pictures showing exactly how these early/late nuts can save the day. Glad you worked through your glitch! DD
