Re: Oil level. Is your dipstick lying? Make sure you know what you've got.
Whether your putting in 4 quarts or 5 quarts, it states in my Ford Reference book 1938 - V8 85hp and 60hp:
"It is not necessary to add oil until the level has dropped to the "danger" mark."
It calls for 5 quarts for the 85hp and 4 quarts for the 60hp.
Most don't let it get that low so just below full shouldn't be an issue.
