They can actually use the original control set if it's still in good restorable condition. On/off/volume is just a rheostat/switch and any form of tuner will work including presets if the set is so equipped. Some radios also have tone selections and they are just different switch functions. There are a lot of possibilities when working with a mix of old and new technologies.
