If you just bought it. Drive it for a season or two, fix mechanics if needed.

If you are quick and have time to get to projects quickly, that might be a different thing. But it can be a bummer to have a car out of service on a nice day.

Get some osho or another rust convertor and treat the rust. It'll slow it down. I have a couple small spots (quarter/half dollar) with exposed sheet metal (not rust through) that I treated with osho. It still hasn't rusted after 3 yrs.
