Canadian engines will have the casting number with C prefix. Prewar 95 hp 239 blocks and wartime 239 blocks have the same deck configuration. There are casting differences between the early 39 thru 40 239 blocks and 41 thru wartime 239 blocks. If it's a truck engine then it will likely be a relieved type block.

Canadian early 239 blocks have a little 99 casting number on the front right if I remember right. US made early 239 blocks were stamped 99 on the front right intake deck. All pre 1941 engines have sand clean out ports on the pan rails. 1941 & later have no clean out ports and have what appears to be a raised intake deck.
