I personally would not try to burn a ring gear off a converter front plate. If you are thinking of doing that, measure the I.D. of the Ford-o-matic ring gear and compare that with the O.D. of your manual transmission flywheel first to see if it would fit.

No I was not going to try that, you had brought up the Ford-o-matic rear thing and was thinking that was what you were saying. The trans in the car now is a Ford-o-matic but it has the water cooled converter.
