I don't think you can do much with those old repro switches. You can get a new cable and modern switch from Bratton's or Snyder's for about $25. Or Dick Crabtree restores original popouts and can sell you one that's correct for your car. I think they're about $175. Pricey, but they're perfect.

Those old import popouts are notorious for shorting out anyway. I'd just hang it on the wall and get a replacement.
