Quite frankly, you're probably right on that theory. The FINAL 1st gear ratio in my '65 Vette with 2.20 1st gear and 3.55 rear is 7.81 (actually a tad stiffer than your 8.37) and it leaves a stop light perfectly fine without any fuss. DD
