Get an impact with the 1/2" square connection integral to the tool, it will be much more stout. In my experience, Every extra connection, either adapters or extensions, lowers the effectiveness of the tool.

I borrowed a friend's 1/2" Craftsman 18v impact and it broke loose the 1 3/8" bolt holding the crank pulley on a 1937 21 stud crankshaft. I was impressed.
