I agree with Wayne !!! if correct appearance is important, no clear coat over the engine green, Cast blast or other new cast look paint for the exhaust manifold, or the black used on the carb or other black parts. The only place that I would consider a clear finish would be on unfinished parts to resist rust but not a glossy clear. If you apply the colors with a paint gun and enamel type paint is used, a hardener could be added for durability. High gloss finishes look over restored on the engine. Also, No primer on clean cast iron parts. Cast iron has all of the tooth needed for paint retention . If primer is used and for some reason the paint was to peel it would stick out like a sore thumb. Just my thoughts.
