Greg you are right. I have original doors and they definitely have a sound deadening pad in each door between the outside skin and the large detent in the inside skin. The car isn't on the road yet but I can see where it would make the door a lot less tinny when being closed. Not sure what the material is but I think as long as it wouldn't absorb dampness it would be ok.
