I had a similar problem with my 8BA (Max1,390 Holley). After checking with Mallory tech support I was told to use their promaster E-Coil (30440) even though the mallory web site showed another unit. Mallory told me the 50227502 electronic distrubutor was breaking down my coil. I bought the promaster and the problem disappeared. Pulls strong to 5000 without a misfire
