How long have you been driving this monster ? Does it seem to help by carefully shifting slowly in a deliberate H fashion ?

I'm thinking the problem also is in the transmitter top, probably the shift lever ball is too worn. Just remove the floorboards and the trans top. Do not remove the spring without knowing/learning how.
