Don't these years require the spaces? Do the holes line up between the water pumps and the frame/crossmember? Not familiar with 35, but I know the 33/34s need them.
Edited: This is not correct for 35, major frame change between 34 and 35 frame and front crossmember.
From the photo posted in the OP, it looks like it would only require a smaller spacer and not the U type.
