I've run across several 8ba's with a 3 3/4" crank that had Merc heads swapped on. I guess the thought was that bolting a set of Merc heads on a Ford engine would add horsepower but in actuality it was a decrease in horsepower/performance. That said, Merc heads don't necessarily mean a 4" Merc crank. Don't ask me how I now.
