Yes a cig lighter socket in a 6 volt car will charge a cell phone using the phones standard charger which charges the phone at 5 volts. BUT, be sure the cig lighter polarity is correct for the phone charger. Many old cars are positive ground systems. You need a plastic cig lighter socket that is fully insulated and not the older all metal type that grounds through the metal dash panel. Have traveled around parts of Australia with this set up in a 6 volt 1936 Ford with great success. Regards, Kevin.
