By chance does he have Float-a-motor mounts. If he has one side tighter than the other or missing rubber or installed in the incorrect place it will cause the engine to be not perpendicular to the frame. It would not take much of a lean to move everything. This would cause the pedals to not line up with the holes in the floor and the shifter to swing over to the right.
